Samsung Corby Korea Lauching Show

Project : Samsung Mobile CORBY Korea Launch Event
Client : Samsung Electronics

d'strict reproduced the sensations of its 18m-long gesture sensing holographic runway, which was presented at the Samsung Corby Global Launching Show, held in Milano on September 23, in Korea. Samsung Anycall's Corby Launching Show, "Journey to Color," held from November 12 to 13, was attended by over two thousand guests.

The enormous holographic image that endlessly moves in front of the eyes is by itself an overwhelming visual experience. The holographic images for the Corby Launching Show were designed in sweet tiny figures to meet the tastes of the younger generation, who are the targets of Corby. What is more, the magical spectacle on stage, where dancers, rappers, skaters, and two MCs interact in real-time, are to be found nowhere else. Real and holographic b-boys heat up the stage with energetic performances; a real male model whispers words of love to a holographic girl over an image of a heart; holographic balloon-puppies play with a model; and balloons that fill up the whole stage burst at the motion of a model.
Various functions of Corby, such as Haptic UI, 3D motion photo, and one-finger zoom, could also be easily understood with an actual demonstration by the MC, using holographic movies. When announcer Kim gi-man, who was the day's MC, made an 'M' with his hands, music would play from a holographic Corby phone. At other times, changing the facial expressions and hairstyles of the images of Korean pop stars, which were displayed on the Corby, would delight the audience.

London, Dubai, Singapore, Beijing, Milano, and Seoul

Actually, this was not the first time that a fascinating holographic show that reacts in real-time to a person's motions was presented to the public. d'strict had already commercialized the gesture sensing holographic movie for the first time in the world through a global launching show for Samsung's strategic cell-phone, JET, which was simultaneously held in London, Dubai, and Singapore on June 15. JET, which succeeded in attracting the world's attention with the holographic presentation reminiscent of the movie 'Minority Report,' was released in over 70 countries worldwide, recoding over 2 million early orders.

In the following September, the Samsung Corby Launching Show was held in Milano, Italy, the authentic home of fashion. The improvements made over the short three months following JET's success are truly astonishing. d'strict succeeded in maximizing the quality of holographic moives by making the visual effect of touching an object as real as it can get. Moreover, it designed a stimulating presentation with story and drama by surrounding both sides of an 18m-long fashion show runway with holographic display, which would interact in real-time with real models.

Based on its rich know-how, d'strict will carry its success from the global launching shows of JET and Corby onto "Journey to Color," which will be held in Korea. While the event retains the basic structures of the Corby Milano show, it has also added several plus-factors in order to maximize the emotional impact equivalent to seeing a musical.

Live-Action Dance Performance

The Corby Launching Show opened with a live-action dance performance by real dancers and holographic movies.
The performance was specially prepared for the domestic event as a plus-factor to the Milano Launching Show.
It was an evidence of how much holographic presentations have evolved, with four real b-boys dancing with and even interacting with four holographic characters.

Corby's 4-Colored Product Presentation with Concept Performance

A color performance and product presentation were presented with a 3D holographic movie on a 20m-long fashion-show runway which is simultaneously viewable from both sides. The theme of the event was Corby's four colors: minimal white, energetic green, cupid pink, and Jamaican yellow. It was smartly coordinated to first attract the viewer's attention with four unique concept performances based on the four colors, which naturally led to a presentation on the product's characteristics and functions, each corresponding to a color. The event succeeded in elevating what could have been a boring product presentation to a well-organized performance.

Beyond 'Technology' to a New Digital 'Experience'

Behind such event performances that have story and drama is d'strict's clear sense of purpose: to present a 'new experience' with digital technology, beyond simple technical achievements such as gesture sensing or holographic show. The gesture sensing holographic movie is a means to create an emotional 'experience,' and the means does not stop at just holographic moives.

d'strict creates new experiences by converging different factors from diverse fields, such as analogue, digital, technology, fashion, performance art, and media art. The consummate result is the Corby Launching Show, which succeeded in realizing a 4D art in the commercial realm – the first of its kind in the world – by taking into its own hands the entire process of designing, planning and production, from music, lighting, costume, choreography, script, to gestures.
